In Delhi, a man aged 26 years has been arrested for allegedly killing a young woman. The man reportedly pushed her off the fifth-floor rooftop of her residence in Ashok Nagar.
The name of the accused is Taufeeq and he lives in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The police took him into custody late on June 24 night after he went into hiding for a brief period. The incident was first reported on June 23 at around 8:30 am at the Jyoti Nagar Police Station.
The police have informed that the victim, a 19-year-old woman named Neha, was found in critical condition after Taufeeq allegedly pushed her from the rooftop of her family’s residence. She was taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries later that day.
Taufeeq wore a burqa to enter the residential building to hide his identity and avoid being detected by the victim’s family and neighbours. Following his arrest, Taufeeq was interrogated when he reportedly admitted to using the disguise to directly go to Neha without raising any kind of suspicion.
The CCTV footage has been scanned which shows a person entering the building wearing a burqa. The footage shows the person leaving later under suspicious circumstances. The police are trying to reconstruct the full timeline of events using footage from multiple cameras deployed in the complex.
The NDTV has reported quoting sources in the Delhi Police that Taufeeq and Neha were a couple for several months. After Neha discovered Taufeeq’s intention of marrying another woman, reportedly arranged by his family, tension surfaced between them. It resulted in a heated argument between the two on the rooftop.
However, Neha’s family has given a different account of the events. Her father said that Neha was never involved with Taufeeq in a romantic relationship, rather she tied a rakhi to him. As per the family’s claims, they had known Taufeeq for almost three years who was a frequent visitor to their home. The police are currently probing the incident.
